If you’re familiar with the desert, you know we have 5 seasons…. winter, spring, hot summer, wet summer and fall. I hear a lot that we don’t have a change of seasons here in the desert. I get that sentiment but the more time you spend here in the desert, the more aware you become of the changing seasons.

Winter is cold – like shivering cold! Spring is fabulous – just the right amount of cool nights and warm afternoons. Hot summer is well, really hot and dry. The nights warm up sometimes a bit too much and the days are sweltering. Then wet summer arrives and the fun begins! This is the season of monsoon – when the days are hot, the nights are muggy and every day is a mystery of where and when the rain will fall. Wet summer is big fluffy clouds that don’t drift as much as they build. Our blue skies peek out between those big fluffs and tease us with intense heat before the amazing cool down the rain brings. And then after way too many months of heat, one morning the air is different. It’s cooler, drier and you can feel fall coming. The seasonal changes are much more subtle than elsewhere, but never doubt that they’re not present.
