How to send a greeting card …
How to send a greeting card – really? Well that sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? Some of us even learned to do this in school. Do you remember learning how to address the envelope? Maybe you were one of the lucky ones who even got a pen pal! When I was in grade school this was part of our English class and once a month or so, we’d write a letter to our pen pal – in proper form of course – and then send it off and wait for the reply.
Can you remember how exciting it was to get yours? My pen pal was from Paraguay so I had to have her letters translated but the anticipation of hearing what she had to say was thrilling and we were only in 5th grade. How much more interesting are our letters now with all our accumulated life experiences? I think it’s safe to assume that we all know how to get it started and how to address the envelope properly so I’d say the next step is – who’s gonna be the lucky recipient?
But wait, who should get a card from you?
I’m thinking that it’s probably been a while since you’ve seen some, or maybe all of your favorite people and I bet you’re really missing them. And chances are pretty good that it’s going to be a while before you can actually see them again so the list of who to choose is not short! Did you just roll your eyes at the thought of writing to them all? Well you can unroll them, you don’t have to send something to them all… this time. But maybe there are a couple few at the top of that list that would love to see your name on the return address!
You have their name & phone number but do you have their address???
Yep, the second hoop to jump through right? You know your address so the return address part is super easy but despite texting and/or emailing with your friends, maybe even being able to drive straight to their house at a moment’s notice or the drop of a cork, do you know their address? The one the post office needs to deliver a card to? Yep, doesn’t seem so easy but in reality it is – all you have to do is text or email them with the question – Hey! What’s your address? And of course they’re going to ask why you need it. I suppose since it would be rude to tell them none of their business, you can simply say – you’ll see soon enough.
Do you have to put something in the card?
No, you don’t. But if you want to, there are things you can tuck inside a card that don’t require any additional postage – woohoo for that! One of my favorites, especially this time of year, is a packet of your favorite seeds. Even if your person doesn’t have a green thumb, there are flowers that don’t know any different and will still come up for them – zinnias for one! But the choices are endless so you can have a marvelous time picking just the right one and imagining the smile they’ll bring when the card is opened and that packet falls out.
Gift cards are always a welcome addition and again the choices are endless – perhaps even more so than plant seeds.
But the most important thing you can put inside a card is words. They don’t have to be many, they don’t have to be deep and philosophical, they don’t even have to make a whole lot of sense – unless of course that’s important to you – they are valued just by being there and coming from you. And yes, it’s really that simple.
Ugh, what if you don’t know what to say?
So despite the simplicity I allude to, you’re still at a loss for words. I get that. Sometimes it’s like there’s this big thick wall between your brain and your hand but when that happens, don’t make it complicated, just write really big – seriously! The mere word HI can be formatted to take up at least a half page then your name is the other half – voila you’re done! But if that doesn’t feel like enough to you, head on over to my website where I have some words you can borrow. CLICK HERE and you’ll get there.
