November is filled with all kinds of good things. Fall is in full swing and winter is coming fast bringing the holidays with it. But for us, November is the beginning of our show season! And that means we’ll be seeing many of you – could it get any better?
Fall Festivals and Fun
When we had kids at home we did the costumes, yard decorations and pumpkin carving things. We went to festivals at the school and on the town square. We trick or treated no matter what the weather was. Sometimes it couldn’t be any nicer and other times, well I think I remember some snow flurries. I loved all those things – it was fun and chaotic and crazy busy but I wouldn’t trade a minute of it for anything else.
But as those days faded away and before I was a working artist, Tim and I spent our November weekends going to fall art festivals. You know the ones – where apple cider, kettle corn and marshmallows were on every menu and all the booths were filled with amazing things for sale. We would walk miles looking at everything. And we had no idea the work that went into every one of those beautiful booths.
Now that fall festivals are our life – and what a wonderful life it is – we have an inside look at what’s behind creating a fun and beautiful booth. And there’s more than a few things involved – who knew, right?

Getting Ready for Show Season
After a long hot summer filled with creating, spending time with family, and chasing sunsets & toads, the last couple months have been filled with getting ready to be back out to the shows and markets. Filling up our booth and making it pretty are our #1 priorities this time of year.
Tim has filled the ‘warehouse’ full to the brim with cards, stickers, calendars and box sets. I’ve been putting the finishing touches on the last of the designs and dreaming up all the things I want to do with them while Tim tells me the warehouse is full.
I always say Tim does all the hard stuff and it’s never more true than as we’re getting ready for the show season. Now that we’re just a few days away from our first show, Tim has been cleaning up all the displays and tents. He’s clear coated the beautiful rusty stuff, made sure all the pieces are where they should be and scrubbed the tents. Who knew that setting up in streets and parking lots would make everything so incredibly dirty?
It’s November Show Season!
I hear over and over that we don’t have the seasons here in the desert and it’s true to a degree but we’re definitely feeling our fall now. The days are shorter, the nights cooler and white tents are popping up all over the place!
It’s an exciting thing to be one of those white tents. The day before a festival, trucks, trailers, vans and RVs of all sizes and shapes start rolling in. All these vehicles aren’t just filled with beautiful things, they’re filled with the hopes and dreams of the makers driving them.
As the tents are raised one roof at a time, the excitement builds. Old friends come by to say hello and new friends are made as we move in and out of each others’ spaces in the tight quarters of wall to wall tents. Soon, our mini storefronts are built, filled and closed up for the night as we plod our way out looking for food and sleep.
By the time you arrive, tents have filled the festival grounds. The air is filled with music and delicious food truck smells. And we are so excited to see you! We can’t wait to show you new things and old favorites. We appreciate that you took time from your days to stock up on all the things that make you smile and say hi. Because you are the reason we do this and we love that you’re on this amazing journey with us! We can’t wait to see you soon.
