St. Patrick’s Day fun but why?
St. Patrick’s Day is filled with all kinds of fun things and traditions. St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday – I bet you already knew that – celebrated all over the world. It’s a day of parades, traditionally fun foods and Irish folklore. There are leprechauns and shamrocks and all things green. So while St. Patrick’s Day originated in Ireland as a religious holiday, not surprisingly, Americans have made it their own too!
Whether you’re Irish or not, there are some super fun things you can do this year to make St. Patrick’s Day an extraordinary day. I always thought St. Patrick’s Day was just the day you wore green so you didn’t get pinched. Or maybe drank green beer and ate corned beef and cabbage. The Irish have already got this all figured out, but as it turns out, even non-Irish people can have a spectacular day pretty easily.
So you’re wondering what to do on St. Patrick’s Day? I have an idea or a few!
Of course there are the obvious things. Wearing green is the first thing that comes to mind. I think it’s safe to say we know to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day or get pinched. Did you know that the reason to wear green is because it makes you invisible to leprechauns? And since they pinch anyone they can see, wearing green prevents pinches. Yea, I’m wearing green for sure.
There are all kinds of traditional St. Patrick’s Day foods so you can plan an entire day filled with green Irish foods. Do you wonder what they are? There’s Irish stew, corned beef & cabbage, and green beer. But of course, there are also all kinds of other green foods too. Foods like avocados, kale, spinach, green beans, asparagus, peas, lettuce, broccoli, artichokes, kiwi, watermelon, limes, Brussel sprouts. I bet you know a recipe or three that includes these so you can have green food all day long! I had to put a green cupcake here because, well, cupcakes are the best!
That takes care of food and clothing, now we should look at your shelter. Yep – that means decorations! First off, you have to have a shamrock on the front door – right? It could be as simple as four green balloons tied together or as super elaborate as a pot of real gold! Ok, that’s probably a little too much but you can CLICK HERE to see some great ideas that you’ll love to try.
For sure there’s even more to do on St. Patrick’s Day.
